The Marseilles Trilogy
Author: Jean-Claude Izzo

The mysteries themselves are not bad - they are more police work than the detective, Agatha Christie or Sherlock Holmes type. That's not a problem on its own. The issue for me was the incredible effort made to insert anti-racist and pro-communism comments and call people racist and capitalists all the time. At some point it even took you away from the plot.
I wouldn't go back to reading it.
READ IF: You like police work novels (none of the CSI stuff) and lots of social commentary
PASS IF: You prefer good literature.
